Artemisinin is existed as a monomer which extracted from Artemisiaannua for resisting malaria.In the year 1967,Chinese scientist confirmed that Artemisiaannua has the effect in anti-malaria. During the year 1972 to 1973,through the further research, monomer was isolated and named Artemisinin. In 1974,the study resulted in clinical trial proved Artimisinin has a therapeutic effect in falciparum malaria, plasmodium vivax and cerebral malaria. Also the fever and parasite clearance time are faster than other existing antimalarial drug. However Artimisinin is hard to dissolve in the water and oil. Then scientist found Artemether, Artesunate, Arteether, Dihydroarate-misinin etc. which was composed base on the raw materials of Artimisinin to improve solubility.
Application
Use in treating plasmodium vivax ,cerebral malaria and Chloroquine insect resistant strains. Also in curing Cerebral malaria, Jaundice malaria, Lupus erythematosus and Lupus erythematosus discoidcs.

The molecular formula of Artemisinin is C15H22O5.Molecular weight is 283.33.Consituent content is C 63.81%,H 7.85%,O 28.33%.
