Eucommia ulmoides Oliv. is the dried leaf of Eucommia ulmoides, family Eucommiaceae. It is harvested in summer and autumn when the branches and leaves are in full bloom and dried in the sun or at low temperature.
Properties: Eucommia ulmoides leaves are elliptical or ovate, 7-15cm long, 3.5-7cm wide, yellowish green or yellowish brown, slightly shiny. The first tip is acuminate, the base is rounded to form a wide cuneate, the edge is serrated, with a short petiole. The texture is brittle, easily broken by rubbing, with a small amount of silvery white rubber filaments connected to the fracture surface. Odor, taste slightly bitter.
The active constituents of Eucommia japonica leaves include flavonoids, cyclic enol ether terpenes, phenylpropanoids, lignans, polysaccharides, and eucommia rubber.
